Dome Lighting – FAQ

What size dome(s) looks best for my space?

The kitchen is the hardest-working room in your home—and your kitchen island is at the center of it all. From serving as a casual gathering spot for your family to additional countertop space for meal prep—make sure your island is supported with layers of light that spotlight every role it needs to play. Here’s a step-by-step of what you need to know to make sure that your kitchen island gets all the light it needs.

Project Tip: Test your measurements by hanging a piece of paper or a balloon from a string taped to the ceiling—this will help you visualize how much space the light will take up and the right distance it should be from the floor or your workspace.

CHL’s Dome Fixture Size Recommendations:

  • 6 Foot Kitchen Island – Two 16″ Dome Fixtures

  • 9 Foot Kitchen Island – Two 20″ Dome Fixtures
  • 10 Foot Kitchen Island – Two 24″ Dome Fixtures
  • 10 Foot Kitchen Island – Two 30″ Dome Fixtures

As a general rule, the bottom of your pendant lights should hang between 30 and 36 inches above a countertop or island. Your height and the height of your ceiling should be taken into consideration as well because you want to be able to see across the counter without the light being in your way. *Make sure to factor in the height of the dome shade.

Our standard hardware includes 36″ of pendant rods which consist of two 12″ and two 6″ sections which can be removed to customize the height.

High ceilings in your kitchen, dining room or living room? Need to hang our light fixtures longer than the standard 36″ rods? We offer additional pendant rods as well as pendant cord and chain as alternative options.
